James | Rehabilitation Services Acute Care
The Occupational Therapist (OT) evaluates and treats patients primarily within The James Cancer Hospital. Patients served have deficits associated with cancer or the treatment thereof. Rehabilitation needs may be related to concomitant disorders including but not limited to neurological, gastroenterological, orthopedic, and cardiopulmonary etiologies. The OT works as part of an interdisciplinary team, including physical therapy and speech-language pathology within the rehabilitation services department. Effective communication with Occupational Therapy Assistants for the delegation of treatments is an essential skill for this position. This position works under the direct supervision of the Rehabilitation Services Manager and follows all applicable local, state, and national laws and regulations set forth for the practice of Occupational Therapists. This position will require working Saturday as part of the regular schedule. A rotation for holiday coverage exists; staff typically work an average of 2-4 of the 10 federally recognized holidays per year. The population served will consist primarily of patients within medical and surgical intensive care units, the bone marrow transplant unit, and general hematology patients.
Minimum Qualifications
Occupational Therapist rehabilitation team members must be licensed and/or certified with the respective profession (occupational therapy), and meet the educational and/or certification requirements established by their professions (occupational therapists must hold a bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy at a minimum). Degree must have been granted from an accredited institution. All licensed professionals must be cleared through the National Database of Practitioners. Typically, one-two years experience working in a medical setting is preferred for all professionals hired.
