Periop Nurse Supervisor, Full Time, Days 7a-5p, Operating Room, Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center
Leadership position to utilize valued experience to perform leadership, administrative, and clinical duties serving the Vascular, Thoracic & Endovascular Service line.
In addition to the responsibilities of a Surgical Nurse, the RN Perioperative Nurse Supervisor is responsible for functioning in the role of team facilitator/specialty team coordinator. Supervising health care team members on the specialty team. Assisting with orientation, training, and education of personnel on their specialty team. Acting as a liaison between surgeons, management, and team members on their specialty team and in the Operating Room as a whole.
Principal Accountabilities:
Preferred Knowledge of the following Vascular, Thoracic & Endovascular specialties
- Performs all aspects of clinical patient care
- Serves in a leadership role, collaborating and coordinating patient care activities among the specialty team
- Identifies needs and develops/modifies patient plan of care as necessary
- Acts as a liaison between physicians, sales representatives, and management team with pertinent and ongoing communication
- Responsible and accountable for participation in quality and performance improvement activities with the goal to improve patient outcomes. Utilizes literature, research and evidence-based practice to improve patient care and nursing practice keeping specialty team members up to date with education and in-service opportunities.
- Ensures surgeon preference cards are up to date- to include pick list, patient positioning, surgeons prepping preferences, medications required for the procedure, special equipment and/or supplies requested by the surgeon
- Provides constant communication to the specialty team ensuring they are updated on pertinent changes the surgeons make to their preferences
- Facilitate the daily OR Schedule
- Promotes a safe environment initiates appropriate action in emergency situations, demonstrates awareness and control of hazards which may endanger patients, visitors, and employees, identifies environmental concerns by participating on unit rounds
- Ensures adherence to appropriate regulatory standards and the facilities Policy and Procedures
- Collaborate with Anesthesia, Surgical Access staff and Post Anesthesia Unit Staff to promote effective patient flow of the cases through the surgical process.
- Direct and supervise staff assigned to the above service line.
- Direct, supervise and assign staff to the above service line based on case and skill level.

- Maintains professional competency by participating in continuing education and appropriate learning experiences both internal and external. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required
Bachelors’ Degree of Nursing required
License & Certifications:
Current NJ (New Jersey) Registered Nurse License required
Basic Life Support required
CNOR certification required
Experience:
Three (3) to Five (5) years' Operating Room experience required
Clinical and Technical expertise in specialties of responsibility required
Leadership Experience preferred
Experience using EPIC preferred
Knowledge of clinical nursing care procedures and protocols preferred
