Clinical Nurse Educator - Emergency

The primary goal of the Clinical Nurse Educator is to develop competent caregivers for quality patient care. The roles used to accomplish this consist of educator, consultant, and practitioner. The Clinical Nurse Educator is a clinical educator and professional practitioner with expertise in a specialized area of nursing. The Clinical Nurse Educator is accountable and responsible for facilitating, guiding, and supporting nursing personnel in the delivering of safe and effective patient care.


Primary Duties:

  • Assesses the learning needs of department nursing staff and develops an educational plan to meet these needs.

  • Develops, implements and evaluates the orientation program for new personnel in department.

  • Develops, implements and evaluates in-services and continuing education programs for depart­ment in collaboration with the Education Department.

  • Identifies the learning needs of the relevant patient population and supports the nursing staff in developing appropriate educational materials in collaboration with the Patient Education Committee.

  • Based on department Quality Improvement results, develops and provides educational offerings as appropriate.

  • Develops and implements house wide and department based competencies.

  • Participates in the development, dissemination, or implementation of department standards, policies and procedures for nursing care.

  • Functions as a clinical role model by providing patient care, when appropriate, for the purpose of educating staff and maintaining own clinical competence.

  • Promotes improved quality of patient care.

  • Attends all department staff meetings.

  • Attends meetings with Manger as needed.

  • Provides flexible support to ensure all clinical nurse’s schedule have access to educational resources and training.

  • Provides for clinical consultation within the framework of the multi-disciplinary team meetings, as requested by the Manager.

  • Identifies any staff or patient related clinical issues or problems and communicates to Nursing Director or Department Manager as appropriate.

  • Provides clinical coaching to staff as needed when clinical issues are identified.

  • Follows up with Department Manager when performance improvement plans are not met.

  • Assists the Manager with development and implementation of new programs and projects.

  • Utilizes positive communication skills to effect resolution and team work.

  • Contributes to cost effective patient care by monitoring use of time, equipment and supplies.

  • Participates and promotes concepts of the Magnet Journey. Model Magnet principles to continuously elevate patient care at Salinas Valley Health in collaboration with the Nursing Service Departments.  Applies principles established in the Accountability Grid attached.

  • Complies with safety policies and procedures in order to provide a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.

  • Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in Hospital or department activities.

  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

Licensure:   Current California RN license.  Current BLS, ACLS and Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards required. PALS will also be required, new hires/transfers have up to six (6) months to meet requirements. Maintains unit specific life safety certifications required of staff nurses in assigned department(s).

Maintains a minimum of one ANCC Magnet Recognition Program-eligible certification.  Effective 1/1/2026, incumbent has one year to obtain certification.  New hire/transfers have one (1) year from date of hire or transfer to obtain certification.

Experience: Two (2) years Clinical Registered Nurse experience required, preferably in specialty areas.  

Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Precise hand/eye coordination and finger dexterity is necessary to administer medications, start IV, perform procedures and other direct patient care activities.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, significant others, co-workers, physicians, and other staff members.

Pay Range: The hourly rate for this position is $72.45 - $95.00. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
