LPN/RN Unit Manager

Overview 

The Unit Manager plans, coordinates and manages the clinical services for a specific nursing unit.  Responsible for coordinating the nursing care services provided to residents as well as facilitating the interdisciplinary team.

Shift: M-F 8a-5p with on call rotation

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) to three (3) years supervisory experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Knowledge of applicable state & Federal regulations.
  • Current State RN License preferred or LPN.
  • CEU’s as required by the State.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates interdisciplinary care and treatment plan in conjunction with staff, attending physician, other disciplines, the resident and families and/or significant others.
  • Supervises personnel with defined expectations and implements the disciplinary action process when appropriate.
  • Participates in education, training, and orientation programs of the Unit to contribute to increased knowledge, skills and licensure.
  • Oversees all safety issues of the Unit.
  • Coordinates weekly meetings regarding skin, I/A, change of conditions, restraints, and the input of care conference.
  • Coordinates, participates in, or facilitates monthly meetings regarding: QA/QI, Family meetings, MARS/TARS, and participates and delivers in-services, evening and night shift spot checks.
  • Makes daily rounds.
  • Ensure behavior monitoring and AIMS testing are complete.
  • Reviews daily documentation and orders, labs, bowel and bladder programs.
  • Ensures physician and families are notified of change of condition.
  • Follow up with all residents and family concerns.
  • Monitor nursing assistant assignment sheet for accuracy and needed items.
  • Follows Infection Control Protocols and skilled protocols when applicable.
  • Provides weekly and monthly reports on incidents, skin, restraints, psychoactive medication use, weight changes, abuse, infection control, Foley catheters, feeding tubes, quality assurance.
  • Participates in a rotational on-call system for the nursing department.  May be asked to fill a shift for call in staff.
  • Performs general nursing duties in cases of emergency or staffing shortage.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • RN License in the state of Ohio
  • Supervise STNA's.
  • Develop daily shift assignments based on care needs and staff qualifications.
  • Conduct observations evaluating resident's response to treatment and observing care provided by licensed and non-licensed personnel.
  • Assure personal care is being provided and documented in accordance with the assessed and identified needs.
  • Assure facility medical records policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Perform nursing assessments in conjunction with changes in clinical conditions.
  • Notify or assure notification is made to the attending physician, resident, or sponsor or significant changes in medical condition.
  • Requests and assures supplies and equipment are available to perform care and treatment as required by the resident.
  • Assess the resident’s health status every six months and write summary analysis of observations.
  • Assure physician’s orders are reviewed and signed by the attending physician every six months or in accordance with change in status.
