Nurse Champion-Perinatal Neonatal Outreach Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to support regional birthing facilities, health departments, providers, and key community partners to work collaboratively towards improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes in WNC region. The key strategies for this work include establishing a system to determine risk appropriate levels of maternal and neonatal care, promoting the development of collaborative systems that foster proactive integration of risk-appropriate antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care, and educating clinicians on the latest evidence-based information to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills to provide risk-appropriate care during antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum periods. This position has an end date of May 31, 2027.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Partnership Relationships and Engagement
- Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with regional key stakeholders engaged in perinatal/neonatal health, including but not limited to birthing facilities, public health entities, and social service and non-profit agencies.

Technical Assistance and Education
- Facilitates completion of regular assessment of levels of maternal and neonatal care, relevant community health indicator data, and other data as needed across WNC region
- Develops data visualization tools that promote effective stakeholder engagement and use of data to identify improvement opportunities and monitor ongoing performance
- Convenes partners and promotes collaborative team building
- Provides consultation and coaching for quality improvement initiatives
- Performs and maintains a gap analysis of regional perinatal and neonatal services
- Facilitates sustainability planning
Capacity Building
- Develops and provides training that promotes key stakeholder capacity to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes through:
- performing ongoing assessments of levels of maternal and neonatal care
- using levels of care assessment and other relevant data to identify high impact improvement opportunities
- applying quality improvement skills and tools in ongoing work
- implementing evidence-based and emerging best practices
- implementing sustainability plans for ongoing assessment and quality improvement
- adopting recommended level of care and appropriate maternal and neonatal health referrals across regional partners
- Promotes collaboration and high functioning cross-sector teams
- Fosters leadership development among core work force that supports risk appropriate levels of maternal and neonatal care
- Develops effective tools and resources to support stakeholder success

- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications required.

- Spanish speaking skills preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities other than standard principal investigator role.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered nurse licensed in the state of North Carolina MSN, MPH or other related degree is required. Masters level credentialing can be substituted for a BSN with five years of related experience. DSN with five years of related experience Training, working ono collaborative teams and working on quality improvement projects A minimum of two years clinical experience in obstetrical and/or maternal care required (inpatient, outpatient or both)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with CDC LOCATe tool and assessment process
REQUIRED LICENSES
- Active NC RN License
- NC Diver’s License
SCHEDULE:
Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.
This role is expected to travel across WNC region to perform duties
POSITION COMPENSATION:
$33.65/hour, full time + full benefits available
