Infection Control and Orthopedic Coordinator (Registered Nurse)

This role works under the supervision of the Director of Performance Improvement and Infection Control and collaborates closely with the Infection Control Coordinator. It supports organizational infection prevention efforts and care coordination for orthopedic patients through effective collaboration with provider offices and hospital teams. The position integrates responsibilities in data analysis, infection control surveillance and reporting, and patient/service line coordination to ensure safe, high-quality care. This role helps guide patients through the joint replacement process, supports the infection prevention program, facilitates multidisciplinary quality initiatives, contributes to regulatory reporting, and partners with clinical and administrative leaders to improve outcomes, regulatory readiness, and patient satisfaction.Pay Range: $71,614.40 - 107,411.20 USD Annual
Employment Type: Full time, 80 hours every 2 weeks.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, no weekends or holidays.
Requirements: Graduate of accredited Registered Nursing Program required, Current Michigan RN License (or completed by end of orientation) required.
1. Infection Prevention Program
- Supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Infection Control Program.
- Reviews, develops, and disseminates infection prevention policies, protocols, and best-practice standards.
- Delivers infection prevention education for orientation and ongoing staff training.
2. Surveillance, Reporting & Regulatory Compliance
- Conducts surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), analyzes trends, and identifies opportunities for risk mitigation.
- Ensures accurate and timely reporting to NHSN and public health authorities.
- Maintains expertise in CDC/NHSN definitions, regulatory updates, accreditation standards, and reporting requirements.
- Provides consultation regarding isolation precautions, environmental risks, equipment, procedures, and outbreak management.
3. Joint Replacement Program Care Coordination
- Provides education regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, hospital routines, and recovery expectations.
- Develops and updates patient education materials and supports community education initiatives.
- Collaborates with surgeons, leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to improve orthopedic and infection prevention outcomes.
- Supports development and rollout of new protocols, PowerPlans, and evidence-based standards of care.
4. Quality, Registry Management & Data Analysis
- Performs medical record reviews to support quality metrics, infection prevention surveillance, and orthopedic outcomes.
- Ensures accuracy of registry data (e.g., NHSN) and compliance with accreditation standards.
- Transforms data into meaningful insights, interprets trends, and provides analysis for improvement work while preparing and presenting data reports and outcome summaries to committees and leadership.
- Supports prevention of joint replacement readmissions, complications, and infection-related events.
